Oscar Piastri headed team mate Lando Norris in Free Practice 2 at the Japanese Grand Prix as almost 40 minutes of running were lost through red flag disruptions.
Piastri backed up his success at the Chinese Grand Prix with a 1m 28.114s lap in FP2, a time 0.049s better than Norris.

But it will be tough to draw conclusions from the session, as a heavy crash for Alpine's Jack Doohan caused a red flag delay of over 20 minutes, curtailing running for many.
After the session resumed, Fernando Alonso then beached his Aston Martin in the gravel, which resulted in a second pause in proceedings, before two small fires at the side of the track brought out late red flags.
